The Ball That Launched Them All—Boobyball 2002: The First Bash
“My most memorable moment was walking into the first Boobyball that my friends had put on for me and exposing my bald head for the first time to hundreds of people. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 23 years old. Given this was always considered an older woman’s disease, my best friend wanted to raise awareness for a younger generation and show me how supported I was. She told me she was putting on a party, but I was expecting around 100 people. I arrived in Toronto from Vancouver after a difficult chemotherapy session, and when I got to the party there was 600 people, and more love and support in the room than I could have ever imagined. My friends had made pink ribbon cookies, there was a silent auction, a DJ—and I knew then that this was going to be the start of something very special.” —Sarah O’Regan, honorary Boobyball chair
