Cover story for Mediaplanet‘s 2014 Work Life Balance campaign, written from a previously conducted interview

On the morning of April 6, 2007, Arianna Huffington was lying on the floor of her home office, in a pool of her own blood. Exhausted and running on only a few hours of sleep, the president of The Huffington Post had collapsed, hitting her head on the corner of her desk on the way down, cutting her eye and breaking her cheekbone.

Following her fall, Huffington endured a battery of tests — including a brain MRI, CAT scan, and echocardiogram — to ensure that there was no underlying cause for her collapse beyond exhaustion. Her tests came back clear, but in the doctors’ waiting rooms, Huffington found time to consider how she was living her life.
